WELCOME TO ACADEMIC SUPPORT LAB
Course Description: Academic Support Lab is a course designed to provide academic assistance to students with an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan. Goals are primarily developed for each student at his/her annual conference. The most important goals for each student include but are not limited to the following elements below:
DEVELOP and PRACTICE good study habits and organizational skills.
STRENGTHEN academic skills through strategies and practice.
CREATE/IMAGE assignments outside of his/her comfort zone to enhance learning.
ACHIEVE academic success in his/her general education classes.
PREPARE for life after high school (post-secondary transition).

General Course Information
Students will be expected to complete a skill’s lesson each day; afterwards, students will have an opportunity to work on their general curriculum task(s) with the support teacher and assistant as needed. Please note, students will not have time to complete all homework assignments within the 90 minute lab period. Therefore, students will be expected to work/study at home daily. Lessons will include but not limited to: study skills, math, writing, reading, transition, and test preparation.
Scope and Sequence
· The student will come to class prepared by bringing all necessary materials.
· The student will complete homework assignments that he/she understands at home in order to enhance /foster independence. If a student does not understand an assignment, it can be worked on in class with the assistance from the support person.
· The student will write his/her assignments in his/her school agenda daily.
· The student will exhibit good work habits in order to achieve success.
· The student will work on goals and objectives as stated in his/her IEP.
Grading Procedures
Students will be graded on a combination of Work Ethic (50%), Organizational Skills (25%), and Completion of Class Assignments (25%).
The new grading scale will be the statewide standard 10-point scale.
A: 90-100 = 4.0
B: 80-89 = 3.0
C: 70-79 = 2.0
D: 60-69 = 1.0
F: < 59 = 0.0
Monitoring Student’s Daily Academic Progress
It is strongly suggested for you, the parent/guardian, to monitor your student’s progress for completed/missed assignments, current grades, and attendance in each course several times per week by checking the Parent Portal: at https://cms.powerschool.com/public/home.html. You may also call/e-mail your student’s teachers for current information.
Homework Policy: NO HOMEWORK will be given in Support Lab; however, students will have daily homework assignments in their regular curriculum subjects.
Late Work in Regular Curriculum Assignments: Students are expected to make up any class work, test, or projects missed following the school’s make-up policy.
Make-Up Policy
Make-up work, project, and tests are allowed for students who have an excused absence(s). The responsibility for arranging makeup tests and work rests with each student and must be scheduled at the conveniences of the teacher. Normally, students returning to class after an absence will have 3-5 days for completion of missed assignments upon your return. A student may not miss one class in order to complete or make up work in another class without prior approval from the teacher(s).

Students are expected to arrive to class on time.
Students are expected to work quietly without disturbing others.
Students are expected to respect others in the classroom (including self).
Students are expected to respect the personal property of others in the classroom.
